1984 continued: The minimal set was dominated by the ‘telescreen’ from which Big Brother could keep a watchful eye on the Party Comrades and they remained on stage for the duration of the performance. The cast had to exercise considerable self discipline in order to maintain the level of concentration required for this, but even the younger members mastered it, with the help of warm-up and on stage techniques. ‘1984’ received very good reviews in which the young people
were given the credit they deserved. It is being developed further in
the coming months and Wharfingers are proud to announce that Edward’s
Theatre Company will be performing it at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe
in July, where they hope it will achieve the prestigious ‘Sell Out’
status awarded to last year’s production, Alan Bennett’s ‘Habeas
Corpus’. Since several members of Wharfingers are also in Edward’s
Theatre Company, the experience will be particularly exciting for them.
