Blood Brothers continued:

Last year, Wharfingers’ major play was Denise Deegan’s “Daisy Pulls It Off” so, this year, it was something of a contrast tackling Willy Russell’s gritty melodrama - and the cast really enjoyed the humour, the poignancy and, ultimately, the tragedy of this amazing play, right from the first read through.

Everyone in the company is involved in a Wharfingers production, and “Blood Brothers” was no exception, with those who chose not to be on stage this time fully employed in technical and backstage roles, for which additional training was given in the weeks prior to the run. Three decided they wanted to be lighting and sound operators, with another as projectionist. Stage management, costume and props were also covered by company members too.

Plenty of improvisation helped the cast to find their characters and the rehearsal schedule was really ramped up in last two weeks, to make sure everyone was ready for opening night. The set was minimal, but effective, with projected images to set the scene and to weave the ominous threads of superstition through the story to its violent ending.

Wharfingers are now working on two one act plays for performance on 27th and 28th June in the Studio Theatre, before breaking up for the summer. Future projects include writing plays for performance on stage and for airing as audio productions from this website, and also from www.riverheadtheatre.co.uk
